Re: Map Commentary
Don't we already have a topic for that? Unless it's not MSDuel...

Re: Map Commentary
If you mean the critical evaluation topic, that topic was meant more for map specific issues that need to be resolved. This is for authors to post their comments on the maps and other maps.

Re: Map Commentary
- Big-ass post:
- MSHub - Map selection Hub - Joseph Hicks
I've really enjoyed making this map. Heavy influence from Duel32's START map (of course, it uses Alexmax's voting script). I wanted to make something like a techbase (E1 Rules) - the lights and stuff are a direct copy from one of my other maps: Spamtacular.
MSDuel05 - Spamtacular! - Joseph Hicks
Oh, the BFG. I've made this map initially as a joke, just because of the complaints about the lack of BFGs in my maps and the nasty habit of BFG-whoring some people have. It turned out quite good IMO. There are ammo dispensers in the center of the arena because it's intended to be played without item respawn.
Enjoy the BFG, because if you find it in any of my other maps, be ready for a surprise. You have been WARNED.
MSDuel09 - Into the Fray - Joseph Hicks
I was thinking about that good feeling that TNT and Plutonia have, so I merged TNT's music with the brown and green contrast of Plutonia. I think it's the first map I've ported straight out of one of my drawings (of couse, there are some minor aestethic changes). A techbase, buth with a rock/grass feeling. I've nicknamed that alcove in the east side of the map "Developer's Corner" because the others started using it only after I've used it agains them during testing.
Also, it looks like a face in the automap.
MSDuel10 - The Final Frontier: Duel Version - Joseph Hicks
This is a cropped version of my map, "The Final Frontier". It was originally intended for MSDuel, but it was too big. The center area played good so I decided to include this cropped version here and leave the whole thing for MSDM. Uses a cold Gray/Metal theme and has some lights that remind me of Judas_23. It's the top of a building - Helicopters deliver some goods which are stored in the floors beneath. The full version has a BFG.
I hope I've fixed the texture misalignments - I was told that there were MANY, but I just couldn't see them.
MSDuel14 - Claustrophobia - Joseph Hicks
This map was the result of my effort to NOT make an oversized abomination. It turned out being an almost exact copy of MSDuel10's layout, even though i've made it from scratch. It's small and has some cramped hallways - Heretic music wins, of course.
MSDuel19 - Rise: Duel - Joseph Hicks
Because Rise of the Triad rocks and I've always wanted to play ROTT in Skulltag! I've received many, many complaints about it being too big, so this one is the cropped version. Full version will be (probably) in our LMS compilation.
Also: the sole reason why there're stairs instead of those discs and raised floors instead of metal catwalks is because it would've been too much troublesome to do it and I'm lazy like that. DEAL W/IT
MSDuel21 - Late Afternoon - Joseph Hicks
Spamtastic, but with shotguns and rockets. Mobius's and Spirit's idea, actually - we were on IRC, and they suggested making a "normal" version of it, just to check if the layout was good for the usual SSG duel. And it turned out to be.
MSduel28 - In the Sign of Evil - Grave_Violator, Joseph Hicks and Spirit Soldier
This one is the most overstretched, deformed and edited (ok, perhaps not edited - MSDuel01 takes the cake on that) of all maps in the pack - considering it's original version.
The original version, made by Grave, was so small that, in Nightfall's words (IIRC), "holy shit thank God doomguy fits in here". It was extremely small and cramped, basically two small rooms conneceted by one door and a 64x256 version of that upper hallway. I've upscaled it (4 or 5x) and made some very heavy changes. Added an outer ring and many, many other things. Grave almost had a seizure when he saw the results for the first time - It was so big and detailed that it had essentially thrown it's original intended gameplay feeling right out of the window. Spirit cut a few parts out and fixed the texturing, among other things. Right now, this is a cropped version of it (yeah, maps that go through my hands usually turn out too large for the intended gamemodes. It has ALWAYS been like that - the only exceptions being Spamtastic and Claustrophobia).
MSFinal - The Hub - Joseph Hicks
My intention with this map was to have a final arena (it was originally numbered as MSDuel33, so it was the odd map): After battling through all 32 arenas, players would resort to the last arena available: the hub itself! "RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!". The music was chosen specifically to reflect the almost insane obsession the players would have with defeating each other in the last arena, after 32 tough battles.

- MSGuest3 - Herzeleid II
Build Time: 4-7 Days
Programs Used: DoomBuilder 2, XWE
This is my first duel map that I actually put effort into. The layout itself is not very complex, but it doesn't need to be. There's an adequate amount of ammunition scattered around the map, and two super shotguns are placed on opposite sides of the map to avoid players searching for said weapon. For added luls, I threw in a rage rune inside a room which is impassable. All in all, I enjoyed making this map, and I was glad to have finished it.
